Complete Crowns rules

The grid

The grid has as many rows as columns, and is split into the same number of colored regions.

The goal

Place one crown in every row, every column and every colored region.

No touching

Two crowns never touch, not even corner to corner. A clash is ringed in red.

Solving

The puzzle is solved when every row holds a crown and none clash. Your time and moves are your score.

Tips to win at Crowns

  • Start with the smallest color. Its crown has only a few cells to choose from.
  • When a color sits inside one row or column, no other color can crown there.
  • Mark × around every crown you place. The cells it rules out narrow the rest.

About Crowns

Crowns belongs to the family of chess-queen puzzles. The eight queens problem, first posed in 1848, asks for eight queens on a chessboard that don’t attack each other. Crowns keeps one per row and column, adds colored regions, and lets crowns share a diagonal as long as they don’t touch.
