Complete Dominoes rules

Setup

Shuffle the 28 double-six tiles face down. With two players, each draws 7 tiles. With three or four, each draws 5. The rest form the boneyard.

Your turn

The player with the highest double starts. Place a tile so one of its ends matches an open end of the line. Doubles sit crosswise. In Draw, if you can’t play, draw from the boneyard until you can. In Block, you pass.

All Fives

In All Fives, you also score whenever the open ends of the line add up to a multiple of five.

Scoring

When a player goes out, they score the pips left in the other hands, shared with their partner in team play. If nobody can play, the lowest hand wins the round. First to the target score wins.

Tips to win at Dominoes

  • Play heavy tiles with high pips early so they don’t count against you.
  • Keep a mix of numbers in your hand so you don’t get blocked.
  • Notice which numbers other players pass on. They don’t have them.
