Ludo strategy tips to win more games
Ludo has plenty of luck, but good choices about which token to move win games over time. These tips help you make the most of every roll.
1. How many tokens should you bring out?
Bring out several, early. With more tokens on the board, almost every roll gives you a useful choice. Use sixes to bring out new tokens rather than pushing one token far ahead alone.
2. Should you always capture?
Almost always. A capture sends a rival’s token back to its yard and costs them a lap. When a rival is a few squares ahead of your token, landing on them is often the best use of a roll.
3. Use safe squares
Star squares and the colored start squares protect your tokens from capture. When a rival is close behind, stop on a safe square rather than racing into open track.
4. Stay out of the danger zone
The six squares just ahead of a rival’s token are the most dangerous place to stop. Move out of that range, or far enough ahead that the rival needs an unlikely roll to reach you.
5. Bring the group home
Tokens in your home column can’t be captured, so it pays to move several tokens along together rather than finishing one early and leaving the rest exposed near the start.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Racing one token home while the others wait in the yard.
- Stopping right in front of a rival’s token.
- Skipping a capture to make a small advance.
